Brigadoon
The suburban parking lot carnival appears in the same locations year after year with sounds, smells, concessions, and inhabitants appearing virtually unchanged much like the immortal inhabitants of Brigadoon. Much like the shopping malls of the parking lots they inhabit, they rely on the ubiquity and predictability of the sights and sounds they elicit.
For this project, I photographed the rides and midway tents of over 20 parking lot carnivals across North America. The images are categorized and grouped together by ride and tent for to emphasize the similarities and differences of each structure.
